Soviet Troops Invade Afghanistan:
The invasion of Afghanistan took place in late December, in 1979. The Soviet Union had conflicts with the anticommunist Muslim guerrillas in the Afghan War. The Union remained in Afghanistan until mid-February in 1989.

The Beginning of the End:
The principal policy-making committee of the Soviet Communist Party decided that the Soviet-Afghan War should be put to an end within a year or two of November 1986.

April 1988:
The Soviet Union pledges to withdraw all of their troops in Afghanistan by February 15, 1989. They signed an agreement in Geneva, Switzerland.

February 15, 1989:
The Soviet Union forces its troops to be pulled out of Afghanistan in their signed agreement. More than a million Afghanistans' were killed during the Soviet-Afghan War.
