anti-American propaganda throughout the Caribbean. President Reagan reacted immediately in October of 1983 by sending in about 7000 troops to invade the island and eliminate the party trying to spread communism. The invasion was codenamed Operation Fury. Casualties for both sides were rather low however the United States captured the majority of the Cuban/Grenadian forces. The United States people were pleased with the invasion as were a majority of the Grenadian people. Some of them refer to the invasion as “The Rescue”. This event was important in the Cold War because the United States thwarted the Soviet Unions attempt to spread communism to another country. It caused the slowly failing Soviet Union to take another step back.
