About:
The SALT I treaty was signed in 1972, seven years before SALT II treaty. SALT II involved two major countries from the Cold War, the United States, and the Soviet Union. The two countries discussed different international treaties about the production of nuclear weapons. In this time, nuclear weapons were being brought up along with other missiles and launchers. By having the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, both the U.S. and the Soviet Union had to limit missile programs. This treaty was the first nuclear treaty signed thus far in the world. When the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, the United States wasn't impressed but still signed the treaty. On June 18th, 1979 a final decision to sign the treaty was made. Jimmy Carter and Leonid Brezhnev were both men that took this role. (Video shown here) When the end of the seven years of the treaty came about in 1986, the United States withdrew.

Cold War:
SALT II dealt with the Cold War because it was a treaty between the United States and the Soviet Union about nuclear weapons. During the Cold War was a time when many nuclear threats occurred and the treaty helped this from happening. The Soviet Union had a plan to spread communism, something the United States was not interested in and problems appeared. The treaty helped stop the "nuclear arms race" that was happening during this time, slowing it down.

Connection:
In the world today, there are many countries that now have high tech missiles and nuclear arms. Having this treaty set back the production a little further than it would have if the treaty didn't come about. A treaty today might be useful since we do have the technology along with others.
