Apollo 11 Lands On The Moon ( Mistakenly Titled: 1957 to 1970 The Cold War Space Race )
Overview:
"Thats one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" Neil Armstrong. At this monumental "leap" in history, taking place
on July 20th, 1969, man had taken his first steps on the moon. At this point, as soon as Neil Armstrong laid his foot onto the
moon, America had won The Space Race. As Americans, we became the first people to set foot upon the moon.
Analysis:
On July 16, 1969, three brave astronauts ( Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin ) launched from The Kennedy
Space Station. Blazing a path to the moon. After 13 rotations around the moon, and over 100 man hours spent in space, Apollo 11
descends closer to the moon. At 109 hours in space, Neil Armstrong sets foot on the moon, uttering his immortal words: " Thats one small
step for a man, one giant leap for mankind". About 20 minutes later, Astronaut "Buzz" Aldrin joined him on the surface. 30 minutes after,
President Nixon had spoke to the crew on a telephone. They spent 21 hours and 36 minutes on the moon, and slept for
7 consecutive hours afterwords. Upon ascending from the moon, the Apollo mission came to its 132 hour in space, and at this moment,
the astronauts were returning home. At 195 hours and 13 minutes, Apollo 11 opened its parachutes, and five minutes later, splashed into
the Pacific Ocean. Concluding the Apollo 11 mission, and confirming America's victory in the Space Race.
The Outcome?
With the United States being the first to set foot on the moon, we as Americans had officially won and ended the Space Race
between us, and the U.S.S.R. Who were formally in the lead after Sputnik (respectfully).
This is a picture of Neil Armstrong saluting next to The United States Of America flag. I consider it a symbol of perseverance, and a strong image of victory.
