The NATO is known as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and was signed
on April 4th, 1949. This treaty developed an alliance among several countries
during the Cold War. By signing this treaty, it was mutually decided that in the
event of an attack, this countries would support one another through that time.
The countries involved with signing the NATO were Canada, US, Iceland, Norway,
Estonia, Latvia, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Turkey,
Italy, Romania, Hungry, Slovakia, Poland, Denmark, Germany, France, Czech
Republic and Lithuania. The ratification of the treaty occurred in Belgium. This
is connected to the Cold War, because there needed to be a form of unification, to
represent peace within the countries especially after that of the Korean War. THe
signing of the NATO was recommended by the Soviet Union; whom the NATO
members feared would break up this alliance. The picture above represents those countries who were involved with signing the NATO treaty. http://www.xtimeline.com/evt/view.aspx?id=96232
