1949: Mao Zedong, a communist who takes control of China
Mao Tse-Tung, who later changed his last name to Zedong, became one of the most popular leaders ever to control China. He was often compared to Qin Shihuangdi, the first emperor of Qin who first unified the Chinese empire in 221 bc. Much like Shihuangdi, Zedong was a merciless leader and extremely gifted. It has also been said that patience and persistance were his best talents. However he was nowhere near an opportunist, he would hold back because he was always afraid of the outcome since he didn't know how it was going to turn out in the end.
Zedong was born in 1893 and when he turned 18 he served in the 1911 Chinese Revolutionary War and became a Marxist. He worked as a Kuomintang political organizer and increased the control the Kuomintangs had over China, with help from the Soviet Union. Later during WWII Mao had created terrorist forces and eventually got Japan to surrender and then began a war between Communists and Nationalists.
The Communists slowly gained control until one day Zedong declared the making of People's Republic of China. The People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union approved the "Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship" which was an agreement for two nations to have thirty years of mutual defense.
