After WWII the Berlin Blockade began. During the Cold War Germany split in to different sections. The Soviets halted anyone who would attempt to cross the division that was made. The Berlin wall was then built and used as a "one way filter" it was created to prevent any further emigration in to Germany. Because of the Blockade restricted the imports and sharing of goods from either side. The Soviets "claimed" all cargo that posed as a threat. So as a reaction the allies of Western Germany decided to create the "Berlin Airlifts." The airlifts would bring supplies to the people of West Germany. The success of the airlifts carrying the cargo was so great that it created humiliation towards the Soviets. In May of 1949 the U.S Department of State made a comment pertaining to the ending of the Berlin Blockade.. "The way appears clear" The Berlin Blockade was then lifted and the sides were once again together. This is a perfect example of the feelings and paranoia that were displayed during the Cold War.
